Los Angeles, April 11 — Actor Eric Dane, widely recognized for his roles in Grey's Anatomy and The Last Ship, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurological disease. Despite the diagnosis, the 51-year-old actor remains committed to his craft and is preparing to return to the set of HBO's critically acclaimed series Euphoria next week.

In a statement shared with People magazine, Dane expressed gratitude for the support he has received.

"I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter," Dane said.
"I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and me privacy during this time."
ALS, often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, gradually destroys nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to loss of muscle control. According to Mayo Clinic, it is a condition with no known cure and progressively impacts physical function.

Dane plays Cal Jacobs, a complex character central to Euphoria’s interwoven storylines of trauma, identity, and redemption. Production for Season 3 is set to resume on April 14.

Created by Sam Levinson, Euphoria is inspired by Levinson's own struggles with drug addiction in his youth. The show explores the lives of high school students in the fictional town of East Highland as they grapple with issues like love, identity, mental health, and substance abuse. The ensemble cast includes Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney.

Dane’s resilience in the face of a challenging diagnosis adds a profound layer to his return, resonating deeply with fans and the entertainment industry alike.
