Ahmedabad, March 1: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday inspected the ongoing redevelopment of Ahmedabad railway station, emphasizing that the project has incorporated numerous innovations while prominently reflecting the city's rich heritage. This initiative is part of the Indian Railways' ambitious Amrut Bharat Station Scheme, targeting a transformative upgrade of over 1,300 railway stations nationwide.

During his visit, Vaishnaw highlighted the careful integration of Ahmedabad’s iconic landmarks into the station’s architecture, including inspirations drawn from the renowned 'Jhulta Minar' (swaying minaret) and the vibrant annual kite festival. The minister underscored that this culturally sensitive design aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of preserving India's heritage alongside modernization.

“The upgraded railway station will elevate Ahmedabad’s status as a global heritage city, offering world-class amenities and facilities,” Vaishnaw informed reporters, further assuring that the project is progressing swiftly with minimal disruptions or cancellations of train services.

Rapid Progress and Innovative Designs

Minister Vaishnaw emphasized that the project prioritizes accelerated construction methods and high-strength building materials. The design underwent significant revisions after feedback from Ahmedabad residents was carefully considered, ensuring that the railway station authentically mirrors local architectural traditions.

“The Prime Minister gave us a clear directive: the station must reflect the city’s culture. We took detailed inputs from residents, and the design has been modified accordingly,” Vaishnaw said, adding that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also reviewed the proposed plans.

Gujarat Rail Electrification and Investments

Highlighting substantial infrastructure investments in Gujarat, Vaishnaw noted that 97% of the state's railway lines have been electrified, with full electrification set to be completed shortly. He also reiterated the Centre’s strong commitment to Gujarat’s development, citing a record allocation of ₹17,155 crore for railway infrastructure in the state and a broader sectoral investment totaling ₹1.27 lakh crore.

The Minister confirmed that engine production at Dahod factory, inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi, would begin soon, further boosting Gujarat’s rail manufacturing capabilities.

Bullet Train Project Advances in Anand

Minister Vaishnaw also reviewed construction progress at the bullet train station in Anand, managed by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL). The facility, designed with three floors, two side platforms, and four tracks, will offer cutting-edge amenities, including ticketing counters, business-class lounges, nursery areas, retail spaces, and passenger-friendly conveniences.

“The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor construction is progressing steadily, with viaducts and track slabs currently under development along the 360 km route,” Vaishnaw informed, adding that special engineering considerations have been made to handle the pressure zone created by trains operating at speeds of 350 kmph.

He further emphasized the strategic significance of the bullet train corridor, noting it would unify five to six cities into a single economic zone, encouraging regional growth and industrial innovation. "This project has already fostered new competencies in manufacturing, fabrication, and advanced construction technology," Vaishnaw concluded.
