Salem (Tamil Nadu), February 28 – The principal opposition party, AIADMK, has confirmed its participation in the all-party meeting convened by the Tamil Nadu government on March 5. The meeting will address concerns surrounding the parliamentary constituency delimitation exercise. AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami announced the decision on Friday, stating that two representatives from the party would attend and present their stance in detail.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a blood donation camp in Salem—organized in honor of the 77th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa—Palaniswami emphasized the party's commitment to conveying its position on the issue.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has invited leaders from 45 political parties to participate in the meeting. The PMK, an ally of the BJP, has also confirmed its attendance.

The upcoming discussions are crucial, as several political parties in the state fear that the delimitation process could reduce Tamil Nadu’s Lok Sabha seats. Expressing concern over the matter, Chief Minister Stalin highlighted that the state could potentially lose up to eight seats from its current tally of 39 due to its successful implementation of family planning policies, which have contributed to population control.

The meeting is expected to serve as a platform for Tamil Nadu’s political leadership to deliberate on the impact of the delimitation exercise and formulate a collective response to safeguard the state's representation in Parliament.
