February 13, Kohima: Head of Programme at Akashvani Kohima, Ella Kayina, extended greetings on the occasion of World Radio Day today.
In a message, Ms. Kayina said that this day marks a global celebration of radio as a medium that has informed, educated, entertained, and united people for over a century. She highlighted radio's accessibility, affordability, and its ability to reach even the most remote areas.
Noting Nagaland's challenging geography, she said that radio continues to bridge distances, connect communities, and preserve cultural heritage.
Ms. Kayina added that Akashvani Kohima takes pride in being a platform for people's voices through programs in multiple dialects that reflect local identity, traditions, music, and stories. She said the station serves farmers, students, entrepreneurs, and families who depend on radio for information, guidance, and entertainment.
World Radio Day is being observed today. The day is observed on February 13 every year to commemorate the establishment of the United Nations Radio in 1946.
The theme this year is "Radio and Artificial Intelligence: AI is a tool, not a voice" which underscores the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in the broadcasting ecosystem. It highlights how AI can enhance content production, archiving, translation, audience engagement and accessibility, making radio more efficient and inclusive. At the same time, the theme emphasizes that technology must remain a support system, not a substitute for the human voice, editorial judgement and credibility that define radio.
Even as radio evolves through live streaming, mobile apps, and digital platforms, Ms. Kayina emphasized that its essence remains the same - a human voice connecting directly with people.
She also expressed gratitude to producers, announcers, news presenters, engineers, support staff, and listeners for their continued trust.
Ms. Kayina called upon everyone to celebrate radio as a medium that speaks, connects, and endures.
