Akshay Bhatia Maintains Top-5 Spot at Truist Championship After Even-Par Second Round

Philadelphia, May 10 – Indian-American golfer Akshay Bhatia held on to his position in the top five after carding an even-par 70 on the second day of the Truist Championship. Bhatia, who fired an impressive 63 in the opening round, now sits at a total of seven-under-par (63-70).

Bhatia is currently tied-fourth alongside top names such as Justin Thomas (66-67), Rory McIlroy (66-67), Collin Morikawa (63-80), Si Woo Kim (65-69), and Patrick Cantlay (65-68).

Starting from the first hole, Bhatia had a mixed round that featured three birdies and three bogeys. He dropped a shot on the fourth, recovered with back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh, but faltered again with a bogey on the ninth. His back nine began positively with a birdie on the 10th but ended with a bogey on the 18th.

Other​

  • Aaron Rai, the Indo-British golfer, slipped to a tied-33rd position after a two-over 72. Rai’s second round included one birdie and three bogeys, bringing his total to three-under-par (65-72).
  • Sahith Theegala, another Indian-American contender, carded a one-over round with one eagle, two birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey, placing him at tied-61st.

Leaderboard​

  • Keith Mitchell continued to lead the field with a three-under-par round, taking his total to 12-under. Mitchell’s round featured five birdies and two bogeys.
  • Shane Lowry surged into second place with a strong five-under 65, bringing his total to 11-under-par.
  • Sepp Straka followed closely at 10-under after his three-under second round.
This week’s Truist Championship is a Signature Event featuring a 72-player field and a $20 million purse. Notably, there is no cut for the event, allowing all players to compete through the weekend.
