New Delhi, February 28: The Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) is set to establish the north-east region's first auxiliary production centre in Tripura, a move aimed at enhancing assistive device manufacturing and service delivery for people with disabilities and senior citizens. The initiative, spearheaded by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, is expected to improve accessibility to essential assistive products while fostering employment opportunities in the region.
According to the ministry, the facility will be developed with an investment of ₹45 crore and will serve as a dedicated production and distribution hub for the north-east. As a public sector undertaking (PSU) under the ministry, ALIMCO is committed to streamlining the supply chain of assistive devices to better cater to the needs of beneficiaries in the region.
The Bhumi Pujan and Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony for the upcoming centre is scheduled for March 1 and will be attended by key dignitaries, including Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment B.L. Verma.
This initiative is expected to significantly improve access to mobility aids and other assistive equipment while promoting local employment and economic growth in Tripura and the surrounding north-eastern states.
