Dehradun leaders and faith representatives reaffirm national solidarity at Sarva Dharma Goshthi
Dehradun, May 10 — In a strong display of national unity amidst ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, an all-religion seminar titled Sarva Dharma Goshthi was held at the Raj Bhavan in Dehradun on Saturday. The event saw participation from Governor Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh (Retd), Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and religious leaders from diverse faiths, all standing united in their message of peace and solidarity.Governor Gurmeet Singh, addressing the gathering, emphasized that the seminar was a collective reaffirmation of the nation’s shared responsibility. “This event is an expression of our shared responsibility towards the nation,” he said.
He highlighted the universal message of peace and harmony present in all religions. Citing teachings from multiple faiths, he remarked, “Hinduism prays for the happiness of all with ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah’, Sikhism upholds the spirit of Ekam or oneness, while Buddhism teaches us to be our own light. Jainism preaches non-violence as the supreme religion, Islam discourages division, and Christianity honours peacemakers as children of God.”
Lt Gen Singh also referenced Operation Sindoor, an anti-terror effort by the Indian armed forces, underlining the critical role women are playing in national security. “Our daughters are constantly bringing us information about Operation Sindoor through officers like Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, showcasing the strength of Mother India,” he added.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami echoed the sentiment of unity, stating that India has always come together in times of crisis. “Whenever the nation has had to face a war-like situation, people of all religions and communities stood together to send a message of national unity and peace,” Dhami said.
Quoting the Vedas, he added, “Let us all walk together, think with one mind and move towards one goal.” He further stated that the true objective of religion is to uphold truth, compassion, and harmony in society.
The seminar served as a symbolic reinforcement of India’s cultural ethos of unity in diversity, especially crucial in the backdrop of current geopolitical tensions.
