Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh, Feb 27 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday lauded the contributions of social reformer Nanaji Deshmukh, emphasizing that some individuals leave a lasting impact that transcends generations and brings about epochal changes. He was speaking at a tribute event marking Deshmukh’s 15th death anniversary.

"Some personalities influence not just years but entire eras. Bharat Ratna Nanaji Deshmukh is one such towering figure," Shah remarked.

Shah highlighted Deshmukh’s contributions across diverse fields—including politics, industries, arts, and social service—and said his work continues to inspire the nation. He also acknowledged Deshmukh’s role in forming the Janata Party after the Emergency, which restored democracy within just 19 months.

Reflecting on Deshmukh’s political journey, Shah recalled his victory in the 1977 Lok Sabha elections from Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh. He noted that after his win, Deshmukh met his opponent—a Maharani from a former royal family—and sought her cooperation in developing the constituency.

During the event, Shah also unveiled a statue of Jan Sangh founder Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and inaugurated the newly renovated Ram Darshan Complex.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also addressed the gathering at the event.
