New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) – Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted a high-level security review on Tuesday to assess the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, following recent terror incidents, sources confirmed.
During the meeting, top officials from the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and intelligence agencies provided Shah with a comprehensive briefing on the prevailing security conditions and ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the Union Territory.
The meeting comes in the wake of a terror attack in Kulgam district on Monday, in which former serviceman Manzoor Ahmad Wagay lost his life, while his wife and niece sustained injuries.
Among those present at the review were Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, and other senior officials from the armed forces, police, and civil administration.
Shah is also expected to hold another security review session with senior officials from paramilitary forces on Wednesday.
This follows the previous security review chaired by Shah on December 19, 2024, where he instructed all security agencies to work in a coordinated manner to eliminate terrorism in the region. The government has reiterated that terrorist incidents, infiltration attempts, and youth recruitment into terror outfits have seen a notable decline.
Security forces recently launched a large-scale operation across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in higher-altitude regions and forested areas near the Line of Control, to track down terrorists responsible for last year’s multiple attacks. Districts such as Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, Jammu, and Rajouri have witnessed a surge in terror-related activities in recent years.
The Union government remains firm in its stance on strengthening security measures and maintaining stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
