New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, following a series of recent terror incidents in the region, sources said.
Top officials from the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and paramilitary forces provided Shah with a detailed briefing on the prevailing security conditions and the ongoing counterterrorism operations, they added.
The meeting took place a day after a deadly terror attack in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, where ex-serviceman Manzoor Ahmad Wagay was killed, and his wife and niece sustained injuries.
During the last security review on December 19, 2024, Shah had directed all security agencies to maintain a coordinated approach to eliminate terrorism from the Union territory. The government has consistently emphasized a notable decline in terror-related incidents, infiltration attempts, and recruitment of local youth into militant organizations.
In response to recent attacks, security forces launched an extensive counter-insurgency operation last week, targeting terrorists hiding in the higher reaches and forested areas near the Line of Control (LoC). These efforts aim to neutralize militants responsible for multiple attacks across various districts last year.
The districts of Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, Jammu, and Rajouri have witnessed a surge in terrorist activity over the past two years, prompting intensified security measures.
