Home Minister Highlights Modi Government's Steps Supporting Regional Languages
In a significant move amidst the ongoing language controversy in Tamil Nadu, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday urged Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to introduce engineering and medical education in the Tamil language. Shah made these remarks during the 56th Raising Day celebrations of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at RTC Thakkolam in Ranipet district, approximately 70 kilometers from Chennai.
Addressing a long-standing demand from Tamil Nadu, Shah pointed out the Narendra Modi government's recent decision allowing aspirants for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) examinations to write their exams in regional languages, including Tamil. Highlighting this policy change, Shah remarked, "Now, the PM Narendra Modi government has ensured that the exam can be written in Tamil too."
Shah’s comments directly addressed Chief Minister Stalin's strong opposition to what he describes as the "imposition" of Hindi through the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), an allegation repeatedly denied by the Centre. The DMK-led Tamil Nadu government remains steadfast in following a two-language policy comprising Tamil and English exclusively.
Amit Shah Praises Tamil Nadu's Cultural Contributions
In a speech filled with praise for Tamil Nadu, Shah acknowledged the significant role the state's rich culture has played in bolstering India's heritage. "Be it administrative reforms, attaining spiritual heights, education, or the unity and integrity of the nation, Tamil Nadu has reinforced Indian culture in every sphere," he asserted.
Describing Tamil language and traditions as invaluable treasures of India's heritage, Shah stated, "Tamil language, culture, and traditions are priceless jewels of India's heritage, which the entire nation proudly embraces today."
CISF RTC Thakkolam Renamed in Honour of Chola King
Paying homage to Tamil Nadu’s historical legacy, Shah noted with pride that the CISF Training Centre at Thakkolam has been named "Rajadithya Chozhan RTC" after the brave Chola dynasty warrior king, Aditya Chola. He celebrated King Aditya Chola's sacrifice and courage, emphasizing that his martyrdom further elevated the Chola empire’s historical prominence.
CISF Critical to India's Growth Ambitions: Shah
During the event, which featured an impressive march-past, yoga demonstrations, and commando displays, Amit Shah emphasized the CISF’s crucial role in India’s ambitious growth trajectory. He underscored the security force’s importance in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming India into the world's third-largest economy and a developed nation by 2047.
"Whether it is industrial development, business establishments, or research institutes, their security cannot be imagined without CISF soldiers," Shah remarked, adding that it was the CISF’s unwavering dedication that enabled India's secure advancement across various sectors.
Welfare Initiatives Unveiled for CISF Personnel
Shah, who attended as the chief guest, also released the CISF's magazine "Sentinel" alongside CISF Director General Rajwinder Singh Bhatti. Additionally, he inaugurated a gymnasium and laid foundation stones for six welfare projects worth Rs 94.37 crore to benefit CISF personnel.
Earlier, he offered floral tributes to honour the CISF personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
