Dehradun, Feb 4 (PTI) – Rising badminton star Anmol Kharb continued her stellar form, defeating top seed Anupama Upadhyaya in straight games to claim the women’s singles gold at the 38th National Games on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old Haryana shuttler, who was part of the Indian team that won gold at the Asia Team Championships, displayed remarkable skill and composure as she outplayed world No. 43 Anupama with a scoreline of 21-16, 22-20 in the final.

This triumph marks another milestone in Anmol’s budding career, following her runner-up finish at the Guwahati Masters Super 100 last December and her victories at the Belgian and Polish Internationals in 2023.

Other Notable Wins at the National Games

  • Mixed Doubles: Satish Kumar Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath secured the gold after a hard-fought battle against Deep Rambhiya and Akshaya Warang, winning 21-11, 20-22, 21-8.
  • Men’s Doubles: Nithin HV and Prakash Raj S dominated their final match, defeating Vaibhav and Ashith Surya 21-16, 21-14 to clinch the gold.
Meanwhile, top-seeded Sathish Kumar Karunakaran is set to take on Suryaksh Rawat in the men’s singles final later in the day.

Adding to the tournament’s twists, India’s world No. 10 and local favorite Lakshya Sen withdrew from the competition at the last moment on Monday, leaving fans disappointed.

With this impressive performance, young talents like Anmol Kharb continue to shine, signaling a bright future for Indian badminton.
