Filmmaker and actor Anurag Kashyap is set to portray a fearless police inspector in the upcoming action-packed drama, Dacoit, the film’s producers announced on Friday. The film, currently in production, is simultaneously being shot in both Hindi and Telugu languages.
Kashyap, known for his intense on-screen presence and versatile directorial ventures, will bring to life the character of Swamy, an uncompromising police inspector who is a devoted follower of Lord Ayyappa and has zero tolerance for corruption. Speaking about his role, Kashyap expressed enthusiasm over the complexities his character faces.
Dacoit, helmed by debutant director Shaneil Deo, who also co-wrote the screenplay with popular actor Adivi Sesh, promises a gripping narrative exploring themes of love, betrayal, and revenge. According to the film’s synopsis, it revolves around an angry convict determined to exact vengeance against his ex-girlfriend who betrayed him. Driven by fury, the protagonist meticulously sets a dangerous trap, igniting an intense, elemental battle.“The conundrums of duty versus dharma, and to approach his job with a dry sense of humor is fantastic. I'm genuinely excited to portray this character in two languages, Hindi as well as Telugu. Achieving the same impactful performance in both languages is challenging yet thoroughly enjoyable,” Kashyap said in a statement released by the filmmakers.
The film features acclaimed actors Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur in the lead roles, alongside Kashyap. The highly-anticipated drama is produced by Supriya Yarlagadda, co-produced by Suniel Narang, and presented under the renowned banner Annapurna Studios.
In recent months, Kashyap has been increasingly involved in projects from southern India, including films like Maharaja, Rifle Club, Leo, and Viduthalai Part 2, significantly broadening his presence in the South Indian film industry.
With its multilingual approach and powerful cast, Dacoit is poised to attract significant attention from audiences across both Hindi-speaking regions and the Telugu states.
