Arms and Explosives Seized in Amritsar Border Operation by BSF and Punjab Police

Cache of arms, ammunition recovered near international border in Amritsar.webp

Cache Includes Hand Grenades, Explosives and Drone-Dropped IED Circuit

Amritsar, May 10 — In a major joint operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from a field near the Sheikh Bhatti village in Amritsar on Saturday. The seizure included two hand-grenades, 2.70 kg of explosive material, and components indicative of a drone delivery, according to a BSF spokesperson.

Acting on credible intelligence, security forces launched a thorough search in the border region. During the operation, they discovered a suspicious yellow plastic-wrapped packet buried in the field. The packet was found to contain:
  • 2.70 kg of explosive material
  • Two hand-grenades with accessories
  • Two pistols
  • Four magazines
  • 30 live rounds
  • Two detonators
  • An improvised explosive device (IED) circuit
Authorities believe the recovery points to a drone dropping, as the packet had an improvised metal wire loop attached, a characteristic feature often used in aerial deliveries of illicit arms across the India-Pakistan border.

The recovery underscores persistent concerns over cross-border smuggling of weapons via drones, especially in border areas like Amritsar which have seen repeated such incidents in the past.

Security forces have intensified surveillance and anti-drone measures along the international border as part of broader efforts to thwart terror-related activities and safeguard national security.

Investigations are currently underway to trace the origin of the arms cache and determine the intended recipients.
