
Itanagar, Feb 26: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s vast hydropower potential, stating that the state could generate up to 50,000 MW of electricity. During his visit to the state on Wednesday, he emphasized that Arunachal Pradesh plays a crucial role in shaping India's energy future.
Attending the Nyokum Yullo festival of the Nyishi tribe in Boasimla, Kamle district, Dhankhar stressed the importance of cultural heritage preservation. Addressing the gathering, he praised India's rapid economic growth, infrastructure development, and social welfare advancements.
Arunachal's Hydropower Potential and Investment Opportunities
Dhankhar underscored the immense investment potential in the state’s hydropower sector, estimated at ₹5 lakh crore. He linked this development to the government's shift from the 'Look East' to the 'Act East' policy, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which focuses on proactive infrastructure development and connectivity in the northeastern region.“When action is taken, we witness remarkable progress. Whether it’s air travel, airports, railway connectivity, road networks, or even 4G network expansion, these developments reflect Arunachal Pradesh’s advancement,” Dhankhar stated.
Call for Nationalism and Unity
Urging citizens to uphold national interests, the Vice President reiterated that India’s strength is unparalleled. He noted that India's diverse festivals, such as Holi, Baisakhi, Bihu, Pongal, and Navanna, reflect the country’s cultural unity.Dhankhar also highlighted a historic milestone – the official recognition of the Buddhist community as a minority. He pointed out that for the first time, a Buddhist leader from Arunachal Pradesh, Kiren Rijiju, has been appointed as a cabinet minister.
Praise for Kiren Rijiju and Frontier Highway Project
Recognizing Kiren Rijiju’s contributions, Dhankhar described him as a senior and influential leader who has been elected to the Lok Sabha four times. He credited Rijiju for envisioning the Frontier Highway project and assured its realization.“India today is a strong and resilient nation, and no one can cast an evil eye upon us. Our Prime Minister stands among the world’s most prominent leaders, and you are fortunate that the leader you trust (Rijiju) has also earned the PM’s trust,” he said.
Inaugurations and Felicitations
During his visit, Dhankhar, accompanied by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, inaugurated a multipurpose indoor hall in Boasimla. He also felicitated Kabak Yano, the first woman from the Nyishi community to scale Mount Everest.Adding to the festivities, the Vice President participated in the traditional Rikham Pada dance, immersing himself in the vibrant culture of the Nyishi community.
