Itanagar, March 2 — Arunachal Pradesh has achieved a significant milestone in its agricultural sector by successfully conducting its first artificial insemination using imported sex-sorted Holstein Friesian semen. The procedure, which took place on Friday at the Central Cattle Breeding Farm in Nirjuli, marks a pioneering step in modernising the state's livestock breeding practices.
The successful insemination was carried out by the state's Dairy Development Department. The semen used was sourced from internationally recognised dairy lines, offering the potential to enhance the genetic quality of local cattle. This improvement is expected to lead to increased milk production and better breed standards for the region's livestock.
The department followed up with another artificial insemination session on Saturday, this time using sex-sorted semen recently acquired from the Sabarmati Ashram Gaushala. The introduction of this technology is seen as a game-changer for the dairy industry in Arunachal Pradesh.
Sex-sorted semen, which helps ensure the birth of more female calves, promises to boost the state's milk-producing population. As a result, the technique holds the potential to significantly increase dairy productivity, ultimately supporting the livelihoods of local farmers.
"The use of sex-sorted semen technology is expected to be a game-changer for Arunachal Pradesh's dairy sector, creating new opportunities for farmers and improving milk production, ultimately boosting the state's agricultural economy," stated G D Wangsu, the state's Agriculture, Horticulture, and Dairy Development Minister, in a social media post.
With this successful initiative, Arunachal Pradesh is taking bold steps to modernise its animal husbandry sector, offering new hope for the state's agricultural future.
