New Delhi, Feb 26 – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal will not pursue a Rajya Sabha seat from Punjab, as his primary focus remains on expanding the party across the country, senior AAP leaders confirmed on Wednesday.

Speculation over Kejriwal’s entry into the Rajya Sabha had gained traction following AAP’s decision to nominate sitting MP Sanjeev Arora as its candidate for the upcoming bypoll in Ludhiana West Assembly seat. However, party leaders have dismissed such reports.

AAP Leaders Clarify Stance

Senior AAP leader Somnath Bharti emphasized that Kejriwal’s key role is leading the party’s national expansion, ruling out any possibility of him moving to the Rajya Sabha.

"Kejriwal will not go to the Rajya Sabha because he has the big responsibility of expanding AAP across the country, and he is working on it," Bharti stated.

AAP’s chief spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar echoed the same view, affirming that Sanjeev Arora is the best choice for the Ludhiana West bypoll. She dismissed claims about Kejriwal’s Rajya Sabha ambitions as baseless.

"As far as Arvind Kejriwal is concerned, earlier media sources claimed he would become Punjab’s Chief Minister, and now they say he will enter the Rajya Sabha from Punjab. Both these claims are entirely false," Kakkar asserted.

Kakkar reiterated that as AAP’s national convener, Kejriwal’s focus is not confined to one state but on strengthening the party at a pan-India level.

BJP’s Counterattack

Meanwhile, BJP leader and Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa took a dig at Kejriwal, alleging that his “dream” of reaching the Rajya Sabha would not come true.

"Punjabis will never let Kejriwal fulfill his ambition of entering the Rajya Sabha from Punjab," Sirsa said in a statement.

He further urged voters in Ludhiana West to reject AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora, claiming that Kejriwal is “power-hungry” and seeking a new political position after AAP’s setback in Delhi.

Sirsa also predicted that AAP’s defeat in the Ludhiana West bypoll could be the beginning of the party’s decline in Punjab, potentially leading to its ouster in the 2027 assembly elections.

With Kejriwal focusing on AAP’s national footprint, the political landscape in Punjab remains dynamic as the Ludhiana West bypoll approaches.
