Claims MP Has Repeatedly Undermined India’s Defence Forces; Gogoi Dismisses Allegations as Political Vendetta

Guwahati, May 10 — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a scathing attack on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Saturday, branding him as the only “Pakistani sympathizer” yet to face action from the government. The remarks were made during a press conference amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following recent military operations.

Sarma alleged that the Jorhat MP has consistently made derogatory remarks against India’s defense establishment. “Gogoi had said that the United States was pressuring India on the S-400 missile deal with Russia. But now the S-400 is actively deployed by our armed forces in the ongoing conflict with Pakistan,” the Chief Minister said.

Surveillance and Allegations Against MP's Wife

According to Sarma, while action has been taken against several individuals accused of expressing support for Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, Gogoi remains the “only big fish” who has not yet faced legal consequences. “He is under surveillance,” Sarma added.

The Chief Minister also reignited allegations concerning Gogoi's wife, Elizabeth Colburn. He claimed that she had links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), citing her alleged interactions with Pakistan Army officials and multiple travels between India and Pakistan.

“She worked in Pakistan and then came to Delhi to work in an NGO, all while continuing to receive her salary from Pakistan,” Sarma alleged. He further stated that Colburn made 19 trips between India and Pakistan and was reportedly accompanied by Pakistani military personnel during her visits.

Gogoi Responds, Calls Allegations "Petty Politics"

Gaurav Gogoi responded to the accusations with a statement condemning the Assam CM and the BJP IT cell for politicizing national security issues at a critical time.

“At a time when the entire country is united in supporting the central government’s actions against Pakistan, the BJP IT cell and the Assam Chief Minister are indulging in petty politics,” Gogoi said.

He reiterated his party's support for decisive action against Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, stating, “We want the government to take strong measures and extract a heavy price from Pakistan.”

The political clash between the ruling BJP and the Congress has intensified, with Sarma escalating his rhetoric amid a volatile national security climate.
