Assam CM meets PM Modi, Sitharaman; discusses key issues

New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union ministers on Monday, engaging in discussions on key developmental initiatives for the state. The meetings focused on major projects, including the upcoming 'Advantage Assam 2.0' Summit, aimed at boosting investments in Assam.

In a statement, Sarma expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the people of Assam to PM Modi for approving a urea plant in Namrup, calling it a "game-changer" for the state’s development.

'Advantage Assam 2.0' and Cultural Showcase

During his meeting with Modi, Sarma discussed preparations for the 'Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit', an investment-focused event. The summit will also feature a grand Jhumur dance performance, a traditional dance of the Adivasi community in Assam, scheduled for a day before the main event.

PM Modi is set to attend the summit on February 25 as the chief guest and will also witness the Jhumur performance at Guwahati’s Sarusajai Stadium, as per the official statement.

Key Union Ministers to Chair Investment Sessions

The Assam CM also met several Union ministers who will play pivotal roles in the summit:

  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman: Sarma congratulated her on presenting "one of India's finest budgets" and thanked her for announcing a new urea facility in Assam, which he called a step towards an Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Sitharaman will also chair the valedictory session at the summit.
  • Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia: Scindia accepted Sarma’s invitation to chair a session on ‘Role of I-Ways in Viksit Assam', focusing on information highways and digital infrastructure.
  • Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri: Puri agreed to lead discussions on hydrocarbons and energy in Assam, emphasizing how the state’s early mover advantage in the oil industry remains underutilized.
  • Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal: Goyal will head discussions on leveraging exports as a growth engine for Assam, aligning with the vision of a developed India (Viksit Bharat).
Taking to social media platform X, Sarma highlighted the significance of these discussions, stating that the 'Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit' will bring together top industry experts and policymakers to unlock Assam’s full economic potential.

With PM Modi and key Union ministers onboard, the upcoming summit is expected to position Assam as a major investment hub in India’s growth story.
