Guwahati, February 13 Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to undertake a day-long visit to Assam on Saturday, during which he will inaugurate several projects, including an emergency landing facility (ELF) in Moran, and address BJP workers.
This would be his third visit to Assam in three months, where assembly elections are due in a couple of months.
The Prime Minister is expected to arrive at the Chabua airfield in the Dibrugarh district at 9:50 am and then fly to the ELF in Moran aboard an Indian Air Force C-130 aircraft to inaugurate the 4.2-km-long facility, worth Rs 100 crore.
Modi will also witness a 20-minute aerial display of fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters.
He will then depart for Guwahati for the second leg of his tour aboard the C-130 from the ELF.
In Guwahati, the Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the Rs 3,000-crore Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, which connects Guwahati with North Guwahati.
The six-lane bridge will provide seamless connectivity between Guwahati and North Guwahati, boosting regional growth, enhancing seismic safety, and accelerating development across the State Capital Region.
Modi will also virtually inaugurate the temporary campus of IIM-Guwahati and an AI-enabled hyperscale data centre from nearby Lachit Ghat.
The inauguration of IIM-Guwahati will mark a significant academic leap for Assam, and it will become one of the select states to have an IIT, IIM, and AIIMS, as well as all other pioneering institutions, to cater to the next generation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The National Data Centre in Guwahati is set to become the backbone of IT infrastructure in the region, and by adopting a 'Cloud First' approach, it will enhance the capacity of e-governance initiatives and ensure secure digital services.
The Prime Minister will also flag off 100 electric vehicles (EVs) for Guwahati from the same venue.
Modi will conclude his visit to the state by addressing a public meeting of BJP booth-level workers here before flying back to Delhi.
Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota and Director General of Police Harmeet Singh held a joint review meeting to assess the preparedness for the forthcoming visit of the Prime Minister.
"Reviewed arrangements for key programme components scheduled during the visit, including the inauguration of the 1.2-km Kumar Bhaskar Varma Bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati; inauguration of IIM-Guwahati at Bongora and the National Data Centre at Amingaon; flagging-off of e-buses in Guwahati and other cities under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme; and inauguration of the Northeast's first highway-based emergency landing strip at Chabua on the Dibrugarh-Moran stretch," Kota posted on X.
Security, logistical, and inter-agency coordination measures were comprehensively assessed, with a focus on crowd management, traffic regulation, emergency response preparedness, and seamless coordination among civil administration, police, and allied departments, he said.
"Directed all concerned agencies to strictly adhere to established protocols and timelines to ensure that the programme is conducted smoothly, safely, and successfully," he added.
