Guwahati, February 11 Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday claimed that lakhs of "doubtful voters" were removed during the special revision of the electoral roll in the state.
The removals were based on complaints filed by BJP workers during the revision exercise.
His statement comes a day after the Election Commission had published the final voter list for Assam, which included over 2.43 lakh names removed from the draft list.
"This is just the beginning. More names of such individuals will be removed when the special intensive revision is conducted," Sarma said at a press conference here.
Despite threats and intimidation, BJP activists filed complaints against doubtful voters, he said.
Following the claims and objections process, the final electoral roll was published in Assam on Tuesday, with a total of 2.49 crore voters, a decrease of 0.97 per cent from the draft list.
Sarma also said, "The fight against illegal Bangladeshi Muslim (immigrants) will continue."
