Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Unveils 'Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan' to Empower 30 Lakh Women
Guwahati, April 1:In a landmark initiative aimed at bolstering women-led self-employment, the Assam government has launched its most ambitious women entrepreneurship scheme to date — Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma formally rolled out the programme on Tuesday in Behali, located in Biswanath district.
The scheme offers an initial Rs 10,000 as seed capital to women across the state, with a phased rollout expected to eventually benefit 30 lakh women entrepreneurs.
Empowering Women, Step by Step
“Assam’s biggest women entrepreneurship support scheme launched. 30 lakh women to benefit,” Sarma announced in a post on X (formerly Twitter) after distributing the first set of cheques. He added, “With the blessings of our mothers and sisters, today we launched the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, providing Rs 10,000 seed capital to boost self-employment opportunities.”Under the new scheme:
- Year 1: Rs 10,000 as seed capital
- Year 2: Rs 25,000 (comprising Rs 12,500 loan and Rs 12,500 government support) upon successful use of the first instalment
- Year 3: Rs 50,000 financial support
Multi-Layered Strategy for Women's Upliftment
Highlighting a broader vision for empowering women, Sarma emphasized that the state’s strategy spans across various stages of life — from education to old age. “Free admissions, free schooling, livelihood support through Orunodoi, #MMMUA, old age pension and free foodgrains — at every step, we stand firm with our Nari Shakti,” he noted.‘Lakhpati Baideo’ Mission Begins
The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) further announced that the 'Lakhpati Baideo' journey has officially commenced, with the first phase of cheques distributed to 23,375 women entrepreneurs during the launch event in Behali. The initiative will ultimately cover 27,04,161 self-help group members across Assam.With Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, Assam has taken a major step forward in its mission to nurture grassroots entrepreneurship and build a more inclusive economy.
