Assam Man Arrested in Meghalaya with Suspected Heroin Worth ₹10 Lakh

Shillong, Feb 28: A 29-year-old man from Assam’s Chirang district was arrested in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district after police seized suspected heroin worth ₹10 lakh from his possession, officials confirmed on Friday.

According to Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivekanand Singh, the arrest was made following a tip-off. The accused was traveling from Guwahati to Shillong in a tourist taxi when a police team intercepted him.

Upon searching his belongings, law enforcement officials recovered approximately 36.03 grams of suspected heroin. The seized narcotics have an estimated market value exceeding ₹10 lakh.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Nongpoh Police Station, and further investigation is underway. Authorities are probing possible links to a larger drug network.
