Guwahati, Feb 26: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that various government agencies have committed investments totaling nearly ₹1 lakh crore for infrastructure development in the state. The announcement was made during the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025 in Guwahati.

The investments, primarily from the central government, will be directed towards key sectors such as road transport, railway connectivity, waterways enhancement, and air connectivity, aiming to bolster Assam’s infrastructure landscape.

Addressing a session on roads, railways, and waterways infrastructure, Sarma highlighted the significance of these projects, stating, "The honorable union ministers have made announcements for various projects in road, railway, airways, waterways, and I-way since yesterday. If all the amount is taken together, it comes to nearly ₹1 lakh crore."

Emphasizing the need for skilled manpower to implement these large-scale projects, Sarma stressed the importance of academic reforms to develop a workforce equipped with technical expertise, mainly engineers and other qualified professionals. "Our next challenge is for academic reform. We have to overhaul our education system to create skilled manpower," he added.

This substantial investment is expected to accelerate Assam’s economic growth, enhance connectivity, and create employment opportunities, making the state a key player in the nation’s infrastructure development.
