Guwahati, May 10 – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday marked the completion of four years of his government by outlining three major achievements: peace, harmony, and development. Speaking at a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma said the state had transitioned from a troubled past to becoming a symbol of resilience and opportunity in the Northeast.
‘Assam Now a Land of Peace and Opportunity’
Reflecting on the state's transformation, the Chief Minister asserted, “Assam was once seen as a region beset by challenges, but now it has emerged as a beacon of opportunity, resilience and innovation for the Northeast and the nation.”Sarma emphasized that the last four years had been incident-free, underscoring the return of peace to the state after decades of unrest. “We can now say Assam enjoys complete peace,” he added.
Strengthening Social Harmony
A key focus of the government has been to foster harmony among communities. Sarma highlighted the mainstreaming of the tea community and efforts to bridge longstanding divides between the Barak and Brahmaputra Valleys as significant achievements. “Harmony between different communities has been one of our most important milestones,” he said.Accelerated Development and Economic Growth
On the development front, the Chief Minister listed various initiatives, including:- Economic growth and capital formation
- Upcoming semiconductor manufacturing facilities
- Construction of multiple bridges over the Brahmaputra
- Implementation of minimum support prices for agricultural produce
Recognition of Culture and Heritage
Sarma expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for elevating Assam’s cultural heritage. He acknowledged:- The recognition of Assamese as a classical language
- Showcasing traditional Bihu and Jhumur dances on national and international platforms
- The symbolic use of the Assamese ‘Gamosa’
- The Prime Minister’s overnight stay in Kaziranga National Park, boosting state tourism
A Collective Achievement
Describing the progress as a collective effort, Sarma credited the government, civil society, and the people of Assam. “The progress of the state is a shared success. We seek the continued blessings of the people to serve them better,” he said.Himanta Biswa Sarma assumed the role of Chief Minister on May 10, 2021, succeeding Sarbananda Sonowal. His remarks came as the state also commemorates nine years of the BJP-led alliance in power.
