Imphal, May 15 – A major anti-insurgency operation by an Assam Rifles unit in Manipur's Chandel district has led to the killing of at least 10 militants near the Indo-Myanmar border, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

The operation, which is still ongoing, was launched based on specific intelligence inputs about the movement of armed cadres near New Samtal village in Khengjoy tehsil, a sensitive border region prone to insurgent activity.

According to the Army’s Eastern Command, the action was initiated on May 14 by troops under the Spear Corps. During the operation, the troops were fired upon by suspected cadres. The forces swiftly responded, repositioned tactically, and retaliated calibrated and measuredly," the Army stated in a post on X.

In the ensuing firefight, 10 militants were neutralised and a significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the site.

The ongoing operation is part of heightened efforts to curb cross-border insurgency and secure the volatile region, which has seen intermittent militant activity due to its proximity to the Indo-Myanmar border.
