Atishi Accuses BJP of Attacking AAP Instead of Focusing on Governance in Delhi Assembly

New Delhi, March 3, 2025: Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, on Monday strongly criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for what she described as a focus on personal attacks rather than fulfilling their duties in the House. Atishi's remarks came amid heightened tensions between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP, with the latter intensifying discussions around the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports related to the previous AAP government.

Addressing the House, Atishi questioned whether the BJP intended to spend the entirety of its five-year term attacking the AAP instead of focusing on governance and addressing the needs of the people of Delhi.

"I am glad that the BJP is finally discussing the CAG report. In the last 15-20 years, I have never seen them show such faith in the CAG’s findings. But when the CAG highlighted irregularities in states like Uttarakhand, where the forest department spent money on iPhones, or the costly construction of the Dwarka Expressway, the BJP did not discuss those issues. Now, thanks to us, they are finally discussing it," Atishi said.

Atishi also recalled a derogatory remark made by a BJP MLA, who had referred to her as "Shurpanakha," and accused the ruling party of insulting AAP leaders rather than engaging in constructive dialogue. "The people of Delhi elected us to work for them, not to engage in personal insults. Will the BJP spend the next five years just abusing us?" she questioned.

In a scathing remark aimed at the BJP's handling of the current Assembly session, Atishi pointed out that despite the Assembly being in session for four days, there had been no substantive debates. "The BJP has wasted valuable time, costing the public lakhs of rupees, on insults rather than productive discussions. Not a single constructive topic has been raised in these four days," she added.

Atishi further accused the BJP of failing to deliver on its promises, particularly the Rs 2,500 financial assistance to women, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP had promised during the election campaign. "The BJP had promised that the first cabinet meeting would approve the Rs 2,500 financial aid for women. However, March 8 is just five days away, and there is no sign of the promised assistance. As soon as we raised the issue, the BJP cut off our microphones," she alleged.

Atishi concluded by asserting that the BJP had no intention of fulfilling its promises to the women of Delhi, claiming that there would be no financial assistance for them by March 8.
