JAMMU, FEBRUARY 12: As a step to streamline vending activities and enhance the visitor experience around the historic Bahu Fort and Bagh-e-Bahu area, Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) allocated 11 modern carts, 10 shops, and five prefabricated kiosks to local vendors on Thursday.
The allocation was carried out by MLA Vikram Randhawa in the presence of JSCL Chief Executive Officer Devansh Yadav.
Among those present were Additional CEO Subha Mehta, Senior General Manager (Civil) Rajesh Abrol, GM Civil Saleem Ul Sabah, AEE Civil Vivek Chopra, and other senior officials from JSCL and the Jammu Municipal Corporation.
The initiative is part of the broader Jammu Smart City project to develop the Bahu Fort precinct into a major tourism hub while providing organized and sustainable livelihood opportunities for local vendors.
Speaking on the occasion, Randhawa emphasized the importance of systematic planning and discipline at religious and commercial sites. He highlighted that revered shrines such as the Bawe Wali Mata Temple draw a large number of devotees and tourists, making it essential to regulate commercial activities to ensure adequate space for visitors and smooth vehicular movement.
He lauded the development works undertaken under the Smart City initiative and urged vendors to cooperate by operating strictly within the designated vending zones.
CEO Devansh Yadav said that significant development projects are currently underway at Bahu Fort. He added that JSCL is establishing planned vending zones across various parts of the city to support livelihoods while preserving urban order.
Yadav further stated that enforcement teams from the Jammu Municipal Corporation will continue drives against encroachments on footpaths and other public spaces to maintain civic discipline.
