Bangladesh Election Results: BNP Wins Key Mandate.webp

February 13, New Delhi – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is set to form the next government after winning the 13th parliamentary election, securing a commanding lead and exceeding the two-thirds majority mark, according to official and party counts.

According to the results announced so far, the BNP and its allies are leading in 208 out of the 284 constituencies, firmly placing the party on track for a decisive mandate.

After nearly two decades out of power, the BNP described the outcome as an overwhelming public mandate.

Its leader Tarique Rahman and Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir won their respective constituencies.

The Election Commission reported that voter turnout in the parliamentary election and simultaneous referendum stood at 59.44 per cent.

The twin votes—electing representatives in 299 constituencies and deciding on constitutional reforms—were held peacefully.

Analysts say the results reflect strong public support for pluralistic and moderate governance.

Women voters, who made up more than half of the electorate, turned out in large numbers, responding positively to the BNP's messaging on women's empowerment and global aspirations.

Furthermore, the BNP projected a youthful and modern outlook during the campaign, with Tarique Rahman and his team emphasizing forward-looking policies and law-and-order reforms.

In contrast to rivals accused of stoking fears of unrest, the BNP highlighted stability and tolerance as central themes.
