Kochi, Feb 2 (PTI) – In a continuing crackdown on illegal immigrants, Kerala police apprehended yet another Bangladeshi national near Kochi on Sunday. The accused, identified as Suman Haladar (22), was taken into custody from the Edavanakadu area in Ernakulam district as part of 'Operation Clean.'
According to an official police release, the investigation was spearheaded by Ernakulam Rural District Police Chief Vaibhav Saxena. Authorities revealed that Haladar had crossed the river along the Bangladesh-India border and traveled through multiple locations before reaching Njarakkal.
Several documents, including an Aadhaar card, were recovered from Haladar’s possession. Police suspect these credentials to be forged and are currently verifying their authenticity. The accused reportedly confessed that the documents were arranged by an agent, prompting the police to launch a deeper probe into those facilitating such forgeries.
With Haladar's arrest, the total number of Bangladeshi nationals detained under 'Operation Clean' in the Ernakulam rural district has now risen to 35. The intensified operation was initiated last month following the arrest of a 28-year-old Bangladeshi woman, Thaslima Begum.
Just days ago, on Thursday, authorities detained 27 Bangladeshi nationals from the North Paravur area under the same operation.
Investigations are ongoing to identify and dismantle networks involved in illegal immigration and document forgery, police officials said.
