Bareilly, Feb 26: A local court has sentenced a woman and her lover to life imprisonment for the murder of her 19-year-old daughter, who had opposed their relationship, an official confirmed on Wednesday.
According to Government Counsel Sachin Kumar Jaiswal, Additional District and Sessions Judge Arvind Kumar Yadav convicted Mukish Vano (38) and Kausar on Tuesday for strangling Usma (19) to death. The court also imposed a fine of ₹20,000 on each of the accused.
The incident took place on August 23, 2024, and a case was registered on the same day. The prosecution argued that Usma’s opposition to the illicit relationship between Mukish Vano and Kausar led to her murder. Witnesses testified that Usma was vocal against the affair, frequently confronting her mother, which often resulted in physical altercations.
In an attempt to mislead authorities, Mukish Vano tried to stage the murder as an accident by making knife marks on Usma’s neck, Jaiswal stated. However, the prosecution successfully proved the crime, leading to the court’s verdict of life imprisonment.
The case highlights the tragic consequences of familial conflicts and illicit relationships, ultimately leading to justice being served.
