Slaughter and Meat Sale Prohibited Citywide for the Day

Bengaluru, May 10 – The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced a one-day ban on the slaughter of animals and sale of meat across Bengaluru on May 12, in observance of Buddha Purnima.

The directive was issued on May 9 by the Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, as part of citywide measures to maintain religious harmony and mark the significance of the festival.

Buddha Purnima, which commemorates the birth of Gautam Buddha, is a major spiritual day observed by Buddhists across the world. In India, it is often accompanied by restrictions on non-vegetarian food sales in respect of the occasion’s religious sentiments.

Local officials confirmed that the restriction will be enforced throughout the city, and have urged residents and businesses to comply with the order.

Traders and citizens are advised to plan accordingly as meat shops, slaughterhouses, and related establishments will remain closed for the day.
