BCCI to Discuss IPL Rescheduling After India-Pakistan Ceasefire, Confirms Rajeev Shukla

BCCI to discuss IPL resumption options on Sunday: Rajeev Shukla.webp

New Delhi, May 10 — Following the announcement of an immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will convene on Sunday to explore the best possible schedule to complete the suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, Vice President Rajeev Shukla confirmed.

The IPL was abruptly halted on Friday with 16 matches remaining after escalating border tensions, triggered by the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s subsequent military response under Operation Sindoor, raised fears of a potential war.

Ceasefire Opens Window for Possible Resumption

Rajeev Shukla addressed the situation on Saturday, stating, "The war has stopped. In the new situation, BCCI office bearers, officials, and the IPL Governing Council will discuss the matter tomorrow and take a call. We will see which can be the best schedule to complete the tournament."

Shukla acknowledged that earlier contingency plans included shifting the tournament to southern Indian cities such as Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. However, he clarified that such proposals were more relevant when the military conflict was still ongoing.

"That was an option when war was going on. There are many options which have been discussed. The ceasefire has just been announced, give some time to us, we will discuss and then only a decision will be taken," he added.

16 Matches Remain, Foreign Players Have Departed

A total of 12 league-stage matches and four playoff matches are yet to be played. However, the road ahead is not without logistical hurdles. Most foreign players, who represent various IPL franchises, have already exited the country due to the uncertainty.

Complicating the situation further, Thursday’s clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was abandoned midway amid the conflict. With the Dharamsala airport shut, players and support staff had to travel by bus to Jalandhar and then proceed to Delhi by train.

As the cricketing world looks to the BCCI's Sunday meeting for clarity, fans and stakeholders alike remain hopeful that the 2025 IPL season can be brought to a meaningful conclusion under safer conditions.
