Mumbai, Feb 2 (PTI) – Bengaluru Jawans scripted history on Sunday, claiming the championship title in the maiden edition of the World Pickleball League with a commanding 3-1 victory over Pune United. The thrilling final, held in Mumbai, saw Bengaluru deliver a power-packed performance to etch their name in the sport’s history.
The tone was set early by Jack Foster, who dominated the men’s singles with a crushing 26-8 win, giving Bengaluru a strong start. The momentum continued in the women's doubles, where Trang Hyunh-McClain and Alejandra Borobia secured a 13-9 victory, further strengthening their team’s lead.
Pune United fought back as William Sobek and Vanshik Kapadia clinched the men’s doubles with an impressive 15-6 win, keeping their championship hopes alive. However, Bengaluru sealed the title in emphatic fashion as Katerina Stewart overpowered Brooke Revuelta 21-9 in the deciding women's singles match.
"I'm super grateful and so happy—I still can't believe it's happening! These 10 days of pickleball in India have been absolutely crazy. Winning with my team made it even more special," expressed an elated Katerina Stewart after the triumph.
With this victory, Bengaluru Jawans not only lifted the first-ever World Pickleball League trophy but also set the benchmark for future editions of the tournament.
