Tragic Accidents Amid Pre-Monsoon Showers Claim Three Lives​

Bengaluru, May 20 – In a tragic turn of events, a 63-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy were electrocuted on Monday evening while attempting to drain rainwater from a flooded home in Bengaluru's BTM 2nd Stage area. This incident brings the death toll from pre-monsoon rains in the city to three.

Man Electrocuted While Operating Pump​

The deceased has been identified as Manmohan Kamath, a resident of Madhuvan Apartment in NS Palya. According to Mico Layout Police, Kamath was trying to remove water that had entered his home due to heavy rains by using a motorised pump.

"When he connected the pump to an electrical socket, a short circuit occurred, resulting in his electrocution," a police officer said.

12-Year-Old Boy Also Electrocuted​

Tragically, Dinesh, a 12-year-old boy and the son of a Nepalese employee working at the apartment complex, was standing nearby and was also electrocuted during the incident.

Both Kamath and Dinesh were rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

The local police have stated that Unnatural Death Reports (UDRs) will be registered for both cases.

Third Rain-Related Death in the City​

Earlier the same day, a 35-year-old woman named Sasikala lost her life after a compound wall collapsed on her. The incident occurred while she was sweeping at a company located within the jurisdiction of the Mahadevapura Police Station.

Authorities have now confirmed that a total of three lives have been lost due to rain-related accidents in the city since the beginning of the pre-monsoon showers.

Authorities Urged to Boost Safety Measures​

As the city continues to grapple with waterlogging and rain-related hazards, residents and officials alike are being urged to exercise caution and ensure electrical safety, especially while dealing with water accumulation in residential areas.
