New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) – Bhansali Productions commemorated the 20th anniversary of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's iconic film Black on Tuesday, reflecting on its profound impact. The production house described the film as a transformative narrative, one that illuminated a path "from darkness to light."

Released in theatres on February 4, 2005, Black was inspired by the real-life story of Helen Keller. The film, which was also produced by Applause Entertainment, starred Rani Mukerji and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles. Mukerji portrayed Michelle, a young woman who is deaf, blind, and mute, while Bachchan played her devoted teacher, Debraj.

To mark the special occasion, Bhansali Productions shared a series of memorable stills from the film on its official Instagram account, celebrating the enduring legacy of Black. The post captured the essence of the film’s journey, describing how it beautifully showcased the transition from darkness to light. The caption read: "Debraj and Michelle's journey has been an inspiration to all of us! Celebrating a story that beautifully paved the path of possibilities from darkness to light with #20YearsOfBlack #SanjayLeelaBhansali #Black @SrBachchan #RaniMukerji @ApplauseSocial #Bollywood #IndianCinema."

Black earned significant critical acclaim, with Amitabh Bachchan winning his second National Film Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Debraj. The film also won two other National Awards: Best Feature Film in Hindi and Best Costume Design, which was credited to the celebrated designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
