Patna, February 26: Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal has stepped down from his ministerial post, aligning with the party's 'one person, one post' policy. His resignation, submitted on Wednesday morning, precedes the expansion of the state's council of ministers, which is scheduled for later.
Jaiswal, who was serving as the Minister for Revenue and Land Reforms, was inducted into Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's cabinet in January last year after the BJP rejoined the NDA alliance in the state. He later assumed the role of state BJP president in July, replacing Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary.
Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him, Jaiswal highlighted his key achievements, including the digitization of over 11 crore pages of land records. "Now, I will dedicate my efforts to strengthening the party's organization," he stated while speaking to reporters after submitting his resignation.
His decision came hours after BJP national president JP Nadda chaired a meeting of the party's core committee in Patna on Tuesday night. While details of the discussion were not disclosed, party leaders indicated that the focus was on the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for later this year.
Meanwhile, the Bihar cabinet is set to expand, with new ministers scheduled to take the oath at 4 PM at Raj Bhavan. When questioned about potential new cabinet members, Jaiswal emphasized that the decision rests with the Chief Minister. As state BJP president, I am aware of developments, but I have not received any official communication from the Chief Minister's Office yet," he remarked.
Addressing concerns regarding the impact of his resignation on Bihar's ambitious land record survey, Jaiswal assured that the process would continue smoothly. "For now, the Chief Minister has taken charge of the portfolio, and a suitable replacement will be appointed soon," he added.
The reshuffle in Bihar's political landscape comes as the state prepares for the upcoming elections. The BJP and its allies are strategizing to consolidate their position.
