Patna, May 13 — Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow over the death of Border Security Force (BSF) jawan Ram Babu Singh, who succumbed to injuries sustained in cross-border firing by Pakistani troops in Jammu and Kashmir.

Singh, a native of Wasilpur village in Siwan district, was injured on May 9, just two days after Operation Sindoor. He passed away a few days later, triggering a wave of mourning in his home village and across the state.

In a statement by the Chief Minister’s Office, Kumar extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. He announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 50 lakh to Singh’s next of kin. The Chief Minister also confirmed that Singh’s last rites will be conducted with full state honours at his ancestral village.

Local residents shared that Singh had married only a few months ago, adding to the poignancy of the loss.

The mortal remains of the BSF jawan are expected to reach Bihar later in the evening.
