Patna, April 4 – Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, calling it an “irreparable loss” to Indian cinema.

The iconic film personality, known for his patriotism-themed roles and timeless classics, breathed his last in Mumbai in the early hours of Friday. He was 87.

A Glorious Legacy in Indian Cinema​

In a heartfelt tribute shared on social media platform X, the Chief Minister remembered Manoj Kumar’s illustrious career, which spanned over five decades. Kumar was honoured with several prestigious accolades, including the Padma Shri and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest award in cinema.

“His demise has caused an irreparable loss to the film industry. May God grant eternal peace to the departed soul and provide strength to his family and fans to bear this hour of grief,” Nitish Kumar said in Hindi.

End of an Era​

Manoj Kumar, who dominated the silver screen through the 1960s and 1970s with blockbuster hits, had been suffering from age-related ailments. He passed away around 3:30 am at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai.

Known for his films steeped in nationalism such as Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Kumar became a cultural icon, earning the nickname "Bharat Kumar" for his patriotic roles.

His passing marks the end of an era in Bollywood, leaving a void in the hearts of cinema lovers and a lasting legacy that will inspire generations to come.
