Patna/Saran, May 11 — Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the death of BSF sub-inspector Mohammed Imtiaz, who was martyred in heavy cross-border firing by Pakistani forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s RS Pura sector.
The brave soldier hailed from Narayanpur village in Bihar's Saran district. His mortal remains are expected to reach his native village on Monday, where he will be laid to rest with full state honours.
In an official statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office, Nitish Kumar conveyed heartfelt condolences and lauded the courage and dedication of the fallen jawan.
"Imtiaz's sacrifice will always be remembered with pride and gratitude," the statement read. "I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. May his soul rest in peace."
As per the state government’s policy, an ex gratia will be provided to the bereaved family.
Saran District Magistrate Aman Samir confirmed the arrangements for the final rites, stating that the funeral will be conducted at Imtiaz’s native place with full state honours.
Back in Narayanpur, grief gripped the village on Sunday as news of Imtiaz's death reached home. Locals and relatives gathered to mourn the loss and pay their respects.
"Everyone is proud of Imtiaz for the ultimate sacrifice. He was very enthusiastic about joining the forces. I have seen him working hard to get selected," said Aftab, a relative.
The bereaved family members were not immediately available for comment, but their loss has resonated deeply across the village and the state.
