Bihar Government Employees to Pledge Against Harassment on International Women's Day

Statewide Initiative Promotes Women's Empowerment and Equality

In a significant step towards promoting women's empowerment, the Bihar government has directed all male government employees across the state to take a solemn pledge to stand united against harassment and violence targeting women and girl children. This initiative will be observed on Saturday, March 8, marking International Women's Day.

International Women's Day, celebrated globally on March 8 each year, acknowledges and honors women's achievements and contributions to society. This year's theme, "For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment," emphasizes action for equal rights, empowerment, and an inclusive future for women and girls.

Special Events Across Bihar Districts

In a communication sent by Harjot Kaur Bamhrah, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Social Welfare Department and Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Women & Child Development Corporation (WCDC), all District Magistrates (DMs) in Bihar have been instructed to organize district-level cultural events on March 8. These events will recognize and celebrate the contributions of women and girls who have excelled in various sectors.

"All DMs have been asked to organise cultural events and felicitate between six and ten women and girls, including those working in the private sector, who have done commendable work in different fields," Bamhrah said.

Those honored will receive commendation certificates, mementoes, and smart branded watches valued at Rs 2,000 each.

Commitment to a Safe and Inclusive Environment

Highlighting the importance of creating a respectful and inclusive environment, Bamhrah mentioned that during these district-level events, male government employees will also make a formal pledge to actively oppose harassment and violence against women. They will further demonstrate their commitment by signing self-declaration forms, emphasizing their dedication to gender equality and women's empowerment.

"The vision is empowering the next generation — youth, particularly young women and adolescent girls — as catalysts for lasting change," she added.

Bihar Government's Ongoing Efforts

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Bihar government continues to actively champion women's empowerment and gender equality through various initiatives and policies.

To ensure transparency and broader visibility, district magistrates have been instructed to upload details and photographs of the events held in their respective districts to the official website of the Women & Child Development Corporation.

This statewide effort not only celebrates women's achievements but also reaffirms Bihar's commitment to a safer, more equitable society for all women and girls.
