Following confirmed outbreaks of bird flu (H5N1 avian influenza) among poultry in Karnataka's Ballari, Chikkaballapur, and Raichur districts, the state's Health Department has intensified surveillance measures, officials announced on Friday.
The cases were specifically identified in poultry birds from Manvi taluk of Raichur, Chikkaballapur taluk in Chikkaballapur, and Sandur taluk in Ballari. Authorities became alert after samples collected from dead birds tested positive for the H5N1 strain at the Central Laboratory in Bhopal.
Immediate Precautionary Actions Implemented
As a preventive measure, the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department has commenced culling operations within a 3 km radius of each affected location. Officials confirmed that no cases have been reported in humans in Karnataka, emphasizing ongoing close monitoring to prevent any potential spread.
"We have stepped up surveillance and established isolation facilities with dedicated beds in hospitals nearest to the affected areas," a senior official from the Health Department said.
Authorities Assure Public: Situation Under Control
The Health Department has urged residents not to panic, highlighting that comprehensive preventive measures are underway. Coordination among district administrations, the Health Department, and Animal Husbandry officials continues to be robust to address the outbreak effectively and safeguard public health.
While vigilance remains high, officials reiterated that proactive and timely interventions are currently in place to contain the virus and prevent human infections.
