New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) – With just two days left for the Delhi Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing it of providing "political patronage" to illegal Rohingya and Bangladeshi migrants in the national capital. The BJP alleged that this is leading to "demographic manipulation" and influencing the electoral process.
Addressing a press conference, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra cited a study conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to claim that migrant workers from Purvanchal and other states are being sidelined in Delhi due to the influx of Rohingya and Bangladeshi "infiltrators" taking over low-paying jobs.
"The report clearly points to political patronage by certain parties in protecting these infiltrators. The AAP has played a crucial role in shielding them and aiding their fake voter registrations," Patra alleged, referring to the study by Professor Manuradha Chaudhary and her team.
The report further claims that an informal network of brokers and religious preachers is assisting these illegal migrants by facilitating their entry and arranging fake documents. Patra also accused the influx of infiltrators of contributing to rising crime rates and tampering with the electoral process through demographic changes.
As of now, AAP has not issued any response to the allegations made by the BJP.
With the Delhi Assembly elections just around the corner, the BJP's accusations are likely to fuel further political tensions in the fiercely contested battle for the capital.
