New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) – The BJP launched a scathing attack on the AAP government over the worsening water crisis in southwest Delhi’s Bijwasan, exposing the alarming sight of water being supplied through pipes hanging from electricity poles. BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, during his visit to the constituency, criticized the AAP’s decade-long rule, calling it a period of "misgovernance" that has left residents struggling for basic necessities.
"I have traveled across India and various cities around the world, but I have never seen anything like this—water flowing through pipes hanging from electricity poles," Patra said, emphasizing the dire state of infrastructure in the area.
Former minister and BJP candidate from Bijwasan, Kailash Gahlot, also raised concerns about the rampant control of the tanker mafia, allegedly thriving under AAP’s governance. Patra claimed that despite AAP’s promise of free water, residents in Bijwasan are compelled to purchase bathing water for ₹800 per month and drinking water for ₹600 per month.
Gahlot, who resigned as Delhi’s transport minister in November last year before joining the BJP, vowed to provide Delhi Jal Board (DJB) connections to every household in Kapashera within 100 days if elected.
Patra further alleged that for the past five to seven years, DJB’s water supply has been completely shut off in Bijwasan, particularly in Kapashera village and surrounding wards. He accused AAP of allowing illegal bore-wells to flourish despite legal prohibitions, claiming that these operations are controlled by party leaders.
Inspecting the network of allegedly illegal water pipes in Kapashera, Patra engaged with local residents who accused the water mafia of controlling not just Kapashera but almost the entire Bijwasan region. These groups reportedly install private meters and collect bills from residents, operating with impunity.
The allegations add to the growing political battle in Delhi ahead of the upcoming elections, with water supply becoming a key issue in Bijwasan’s electoral landscape.
