The ‘Vidhayak Prashikshan Shivir’ was inaugurated in Katra by BJP National General Secretary B.L. Santosh and J&K BJP President Sat Sharma. The workshop is designed to equip legislators with essential skills for debating, countering opposition arguments, and effectively presenting the party's stance.
Among those in attendance were BJP National General Secretary and J&K in-charge Tarun Chugh, MPs Jugal Kishore and Ghulam Ali Khatana (Rajya Sabha), along with Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma and other party legislators. With 19 of the 28 MLAs being first-time members, the training aims to familiarize them with legislative procedures and strategies for raising public issues.
On the concluding day, BJP National President J.P. Nadda and Union Minister Jitendra Singh are expected to join the sessions. The workshop consists of ten sessions, covering key aspects of assembly proceedings and proactive political engagement.
The training follows a strategy meeting led by Union Minister Jitendra Singh on February 23, where BJP legislators discussed their approach for the upcoming budget session. This marks the first assembly session since 2018, following the collapse of the PDP-BJP coalition government in the erstwhile state.
The BJP secured 29 seats in the last assembly elections, all from the Jammu region. However, the party lost one of its members, Devender Singh Rana, who passed away in October, shortly after the formation of the National Conference-led government in the Union Territory.
This initiative aligns with BJP’s tradition of preparing its legislators to effectively voice public concerns in the legislative assembly.
