New Delhi, Feb 27: The BJP has strongly criticized Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his recent remarks on the Centre's economic policies, calling his claims a "shameless lie" and a "desperate data-defying hoax."
Taking to social media platform X on Thursday, Kharge alleged that 100 crore Indians lack surplus income, blaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ for emptying the pockets of ordinary citizens while benefiting select billionaires. He further claimed that India is facing a global tariff war and increasing trade barriers, and that the Union Budget failed to deliver on key expectations.
In a sharp rebuttal, BJP IT department head Amit Malviya dismissed Kharge’s assertions, stating that the Congress leader was indulging in misleading propaganda.
"Kharge ji is back with yet another shameless lie—his claim that 90% of Indians can't afford basic needs is nothing but a desperate, data-defying hoax from a party that has spent decades thriving on poverty politics," Malviya wrote on X.
BJP Counters with Economic Data
Backing his argument with statistics, Malviya emphasized that per capita income has doubled under the Modi government, and poverty has declined from 22.5% in 2014 to below 5% in 2024.He further highlighted:
- Over half of Indian households now own two-wheelers.
- 25 crore Indians escaped extreme poverty between 2014-15 and 2022-23.
- Universal electrification, sanitation, and banking access have transformed lives, ensuring millions move beyond mere survival.
BJP Dismisses Congress’s "Propaganda"
Dismissing the Congress’s allegations as a "pathetic smokescreen", Malviya claimed that India’s economic progress will not be derailed by falsehoods. The BJP continues to position itself as the driver of India's economic transformation, pushing back against opposition claims ahead of upcoming electoral battles."Kharge ji's 'grim India' fairy tale is an insult to 25 crore citizens who have risen from poverty. Instead of gaslighting the nation, the Congress should apologize for decades of economic betrayal," Malviya declared.
