BJP given applications for removal of thousands of voters in Delhi: AAP's Sanjay Singh

New Delhi, February 4 (PTI) – AAP leader Sanjay Singh on Tuesday raised concerns over the integrity of elections in Delhi, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of seeking to manipulate the electoral process. During his speech on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address, Singh claimed that the BJP had submitted applications to remove thousands of votes in multiple assembly constituencies across the city.

Singh further alleged that, while efforts were being made to purge voters, the number of registered voters in households linked to central ministers and MPs had inexplicably increased.

He questioned the feasibility of the “one nation, one election” proposal, pointing out that even in Delhi—a small state that houses key institutions like Parliament and the Supreme Court—blatant incidents of electoral misconduct and hooliganism were still occurring.

Amidst Singh’s remarks, MPs from the ruling party voiced their protests. Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh was forced to intervene several times, urging Singh to substantiate his allegations with proof.

The AAP MP also claimed that voter identity cards were being taken away from individuals in exchange for money, calling the practice a blatant attempt at voter manipulation.

Voting for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will take place on February 5, with results expected on February 8.

In his address, Singh also criticized the Modi government for its continued trade ties with China despite the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, in which 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives. He pointed out that trade with China had surged to a staggering ₹11.6 lakh crore, questioning the government’s stance on national security while it appeared to accommodate Chinese interests.

The AAP leader also expressed dissatisfaction with the government's reduced budget allocations for crucial sectors such as health and education. He also called for improved living conditions for staff working in the bungalows of ministers, MPs, and high-ranking officials.
