India Redefines Rules of Engagement with Pakistan, Says BJP
New Delhi, May 11 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday hailed the recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan as a strategic victory under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, asserting that India has "rewritten the rules of engagement" with its western neighbour. The remarks came a day after both nations agreed to cease all military actions across land, air, and sea following four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes.BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari claimed that Pakistan had "pleaded for an understanding" after suffering “catastrophic losses” and declared that India had struck deep into Pakistan’s military infrastructure.
"In just 72 hours, under the decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has rewritten the rules of engagement with Pakistan," Bhandari said on X.
He asserted that India's operations had dismantled terror networks in Muridke and Bahawalpur, including those of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, and that economic pressure was mounted through suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.
BJP Slams Congress Over 1971 War Decisions
The BJP also launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, particularly its handling of the post-1971 war scenario under Indira Gandhi. Bhandari alleged that over 90,000 Pakistani prisoners of war were released without extracting any strategic benefit. He criticised the Simla Agreement, claiming it was signed under international pressure and did not ensure the vacation of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) or formalisation of international borders.
"Capitulation without securing India's interests is embedded in the Congress DNA," Bhandari said, also sharing a clip of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw purportedly commenting on Indira Gandhi's decision.
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya reinforced the contrast between past and present by stating, "2025 is not 1971." He explained that unlike in 1971, there is no local resistance to Pakistan's military in the current conflict. Yet, he said, India had managed to strike at terror camps deep within a nuclear-armed Pakistan’s territory.
Congress Questions Government’s Silence on US Role
Meanwhile, the Congress accused the Centre of allowing the US to act as a third-party mediator after American authorities made announcements regarding the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. The opposition party demanded an emergency Parliament session to discuss the developments, including the recent Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.Congress recalled the leadership of Indira Gandhi during the 1971 war, stating she had not backed down even when faced with a US nuclear-powered naval task force in the Bay of Bengal.
BJP Celebrates Operation Sindoor
BJP spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill praised the success of Operation Sindoor, describing it as a "slap on Pakistan's face" and a direct fulfilment of Modi's national address on April 24.“This is a win. This is a hard hit by India. Every Indian must feel proud,” he said.
Shergill also warned critics of the operation, labelling them “enemies within.”
According to BJP leaders, Operation Sindoor resulted in the destruction of multiple terror camps, the death of over 100 terrorists, and damage to Pakistan’s strategic airbases, revealing the deep-rooted links between Pakistan’s military and terror infrastructure.
Strategic Dominance, Not Restraint: BJP
Summing up the party’s stance, Bhandari declared that India had embraced a new doctrine based on "Chanakya Neeti", marking a shift from strategic restraint to strategic dominance."This is not strategic restraint. This is strategic dominance, and the fight against Pakistani terror is not over," he said.
