Latur, February 28: Maharashtra BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has alleged that 3,056 Bangladeshi nationals obtained birth certificates fraudulently in Latur. Addressing the media after meeting the district collector on Friday, the former Lok Sabha MP stated that the local administration has assured an inquiry into the matter.
Somaiya further claimed that over 1.23 lakh Bangladeshis have received birth certificates across Maharashtra using falsified documents. Specifically in Latur, 3,421 individuals reportedly applied for birth certificates at the tehsil office by merely submitting Aadhaar cards as proof. Out of these, 3,056 applicants were allegedly granted birth certificates.
The BJP leader's statements have raised concerns regarding potential loopholes in the documentation process. The district administration's response and the outcome of the inquiry remain to be seen.
