Hyderabad, Feb 3 (PTI) – The Telangana BJP on Monday unveiled the names of presidents for 19 district units as part of its ongoing organisational election process, while speculation continues over a potential leadership change at the state level.

Former MLA and state election officer Yendala Lakshminarayana announced the list of district unit presidents and state council members in accordance with party election rules. A BJP release stated that the election process took place under the supervision of district election officers.

With Telangana comprising a total of 33 districts, the appointments leave several positions still to be filled. Meanwhile, uncertainty looms over the future of state BJP chief and Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy. Party insiders suggest that if the central leadership opts for a change, Lok Sabha MP Eatala Rajender and former MLC N Ramchander Rao are the leading contenders for the top post. A final decision is expected within a week.

Eatala Rajender, formerly a senior leader in the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), previously held key ministerial positions in finance and health under former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. However, after being dismissed from the cabinet over alleged land-grabbing charges, he resigned as MLA, joined the BJP in 2021, and won the ensuing Huzurabad bypoll. Although he faced defeat in the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections, he secured a victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Malkajgiri.

On the other hand, N Ramchander Rao, a senior advocate at the Telangana High Court and a former BJP MLC, is regarded as a seasoned party figure. Known for his soft-spoken demeanor and acceptability across party lines, he remains a strong candidate for the state leadership role.

With an official announcement expected soon, the BJP’s decision on its state unit chief is being closely watched in Telangana’s political circles.
